117 Tusks Seized at Bangkok Airport

Thai customs officials today announced the seizure of another significant haul of ivory  - 117 tusks and 9 other pieces weighing 765kg.
The shipment was labelled as furniture and plastic folders and was en route from Kenya, although the origin of the ivory has not been ascertained and no arrests have yet been made.
So far this year, 4230kg of ivory have been intercepted at Bangkok airport, representing 3 of the 5 largest seizures made, with Hai Phong Port in Vietnam responsible for the remaining two seizures, with a combined weight of 3859kg.  A total of at least 9024kg have been seized wordwide since Januray 2010.
The Born Free Foundation is calling for urgently needed funds to help bring an end to this ongoing poaching.
