Malawi Seizes 781 Pieces of Ivory

Reports of another huge ivory seizure have just come to light.  A truck carrying elephant tusks from Tanzania in the north was impounded by government authorities in Malawi around two weeks ago.

Hidden under 300 bags of cement in the back of the truck, 781 whole and pieces of tusks escaped detection at the border and were seized by an anti smuggling team further south, on their way to the Lilongwe capital.

Implicated in the seizure is a government official, at whose private residence in Dar Es Salaam around 350 more tusks were later found.
