5th October – Hartbeespoort Dam, South Africa
Two men are arrested for possession of an undisclosed number of elephant tusks. Press report
22nd October – Mong Cai, Vietnam
Customs officials seize 221 tusks weighing 1,061kg concealed among rolls of fabric found aboard a boat on the northern border with China. Two Chinese and a Vietnamese national are arrested. Press report
31st October - Auckland, New Zealand/Cheltenham, England
The interception of parcels containing ivory carvings sent from both England and Portugal to New Zealand leads to two seizures - one in Auckland recovering 25 items of ivory and hawksbill turtle shell including carved tusks and ivory statues and the other in Cheltenham, leading to the seizure of more than 20 pieces of ivory and two arrests.
