Singapore Authorities Seize 1.8 tonnes of Ivory

Following a tip off, customs officials and the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority in Singapore have intercepted a shipment of 1.8 tonnes composed of 1,099 pieces of ivory tusks. Packed into 65 individual gunny sacks, the ivory was labelled as waste paper and reportedly transiting through Singapore to an as yet unknown destination. Read a news report here.
This brings the total amount of ivory seized so far this year, in just four weeks, to over 7 tonnes.
