Tanzania's Bloody Ivory Trade

A fisheries officer from the National Service Unit, a branch of the
Tanzania People's Defense Force, has reportedly been arrested and
charged in a Dar es Salaam court with the possession of over 1,120 elephant
 tusks.

It appears that the officer was intercepted at the
Malawi-Tanzania border with over 700 tusks hidden in bags of cement, and that the remainder were
later seized from his private residence on the outskirts of the
 Tanzanian capital.
