Last Thursday night (5th May), fourteen metal boxes, labeled as originating from two fictitious embassies and destined for Lagos in Nigeria, were inspected by officials at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya, following a tip off.

One of the largest ever seizures of illegal ivory has taken place in China, close to the southern border with Vietnam.  The 707 elephant tusks, 32 ivory bracelets and 1 rhino horn were being transported in wooden boxes inside a large truck, which was stopped for a routine inspection at a highway toll station.

Thailand is a major destination for smuggled African elephant ivory, with more than 7 metric tons of illegal ivory (which could represent a total of 1065 elephants) reportedly trafficked into Thailand from Africa in the last 15 months alone.

On Friday 10th December, two Singapore nationals were arrested in possession of 92kg of ivory at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya.
